BIOgraphy

Marcellus Hall is a NYC-based illustrator. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and Time, as well as in American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators, and Communication Arts annuals. His first cover for The New Yorker was published in 2005. He has self published books of drawings and writings, including Hard Luck Stories and Legends of the Infinite City. His graphic novel, Kaleidoscope City, originally published by Bittersweet Editions, is temporarily out of print...

Hall has illustrated children’s books that include City I Love (Abrams 2009), The Cow Loves Cookies (Simon & Schuster 2010), Because I Am Your Teacher (Abrams 2012), What's New? The Zoo! (Scholastic 2014), Duddle Puck (Simon & Schuster 2015), and the self-penned Everyone Sleeps (Penguin 2013).

As a singer-songwriter Hall has recorded with bands Railroad Jerk and White Hassle and has toured the US, Europe, and Japan. He continues to make music under his own name. The First Line was released on Glacial Pace Recordings in 2011. Afterglow was released via Bandcamp in 2013. I Will Never Let You Down, recorded with mainstays Damon Smith and Mike Shapiro, was released digitally and on vinyl in February 2024. The album is available on vinyl in Europe via Gutfeeling. Official music videos for the songs “One Night,” “Behind the Stadium,” and “I Will Never Let You Down” are available online.
